The very first Little Free Library was built by our organization’s founder, Todd Bol, as a memorial tribute to his mother who was an educator and lifelong reader. Today people everywhere are setting up Little Free Libraries to:

  • Celebrate the life of a loved one,
  • Remember an important day,
  • Honor a retiree, and
  • Acknowledge the dedication of a teacher or librarian

Build a kit with your friends or family members, order a fully constructed Library, or consider an Artisan model for indoor use. Then add a customized Tribute Plaque to make it a tribute Library.

“This summer my parents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. My brothers and I dedicated a Little Free Library to them as a gift. My mother is a former children's librarian and books have always been central to our family. This gift connects the oldest residents on the street with the youngest. It is community building at its best.”  —Caroline L.

“The Little Free Library has been a cathartic experience for us. We are so happy to remember our son in this unique way while promoting the sharing and reading of good books, a concept that Benjamin would love.” —Helen S.
